Home Libraries / Libreriji fid-djar
The National Literacy Agency is supporting families to start their own children’s library at home through its Home Libraries/Libreriji fid-djar project. To do this the Agency has three initiatives in place:
- In 2025, the National Literacy Agency is implementing a budget measure that envisages the distribution of €150 worth of books for children of families benefitting from Scheme 9. Through this budget measure, vulnerable children are receiving free reading books suitable for their age.
- Through the initiative Books are Children’s Friends / Il-Kotba Ħbieb tat-Tfal, the National Literacy Agency is aiming to help families build a small library at home with reading books in both Maltese and English for each child at primary school level.
- The National Literacy Agency is assisting the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise in the stocking of sustainable baby boxes by providing a set of two books, one in English and another in Maltese to be included in these boxes.
