  1. What is the National Literacy Agency (NLA) for? The National Literacy Agency aims to enrich the lives of people and communities by strengthening literacy skills, helping reduce poverty, promoting social inclusion, and fostering personal well-being.
  1. What programmes does the NLA offer? The NLA offers a wide range of programmes intended to (a) promote literacy, (b) support children with literacy difficulties, and (c) make literacy resources, especially in the Maltese language, more readily available and accessible.   1. I would like my child to develop love of books. What can I do? The NLA organises various programmes to instil the love of reading in children. These include the Aqra Miegħi/Read with Me, the Seħer l-Istejjer/Magic of Stories, and the Gost il-Qari/The Pleasure of Reading programmes.   1. My child is experiencing difficulties in reading and writing. What can I do? The NLA has various literacy intervention programmes including the Nwar Family Literacy programme, Klabb Naħla, Reading Recovery, and the Ħlewwet il-Qari/Read Aloud programme. For more information on whether your child can benefit from any of these programmes, it is best to first communicate with your child’s teacher at school.
  1. How can I access digital books in Maltese? You can access digital books in Maltese through the NLA’s website. The books in the collection “Qari għal Qalbi” are organised into different levels, and if viewing on a mobile phone it’s recommended to use the landscape orientation for the best experience. The NLA is making as many other digital books available as possible, sorting them by school level: Early Years, Primary, Middle, Secondary, and Post-Secondary.
